Do you realize your Power by just being "THE BOSS"?

We all go through a learning process, we have had our moments of greatness and shameful leadership. We have also experienced having great bosses making big mistakes and bad bosses showing positive signs. How can you stay on the positive side of your leadership? Keep reading.

Leaders responsible for driving performance have an important job:

1. Evaluate, Coach and Encourage their people towards success.

2. Create and lead great processes.

3. Achieve profitability for the company.

I spent many years as a leader of sales operations, so I understand how your job as a leader is challenging and it asks for you to give your very best to meet expectations. It is also a very fulfilling career as you get to have an impact in other people’s lives, help them achieve a level of success they never thought possible.


1. Show them a vision for themselves that they could never see on their own.

2. Follow their progress closely.

3. Celebrate when they get there and give them 100% of the credit.

4. And repeat.

It is on you, the leader to drive this success. The team might be filled with talented, motivated individuals, but if you are not intentional about being an effective leader, the team will eventually suffer and performance will go down.


Here is my #1 Leadership Principle: You are the single most important link to your improvement.

If you are in a position of leadership where it is required for you to drive performance through your people, then I really hope you fully understand the impact you have on your people's life by just being "their boss". You have the power to make a difference (good or bad) in small and big things for them, even if you don't see it. A few examples are:

Their comfort level at being themselves, sharing their thoughts with you

Feeling appreciated and valued for their efforts

Maximizing their pay checks

Seeing their opportunities for improvement

Career growth potential

Their stress level at work and home

How much the love or hate their jobs

What might seem obvious to you as the leader, it is not obvious to them as the team member.

One mission that comes close to my heart is that I want to end with bad leadership. People that have bad bosses are often miserable, they hate their jobs, they feel trapped in ways they don’t know how to get out of, and feel unable to move forward.

Bad bosses often don’t know their short comings

  • They know what makes them great, but quickly blame others for things that go wrong.

  • They are afraid of feedback (even though they say they “love getting feedback”).

  • When they do get the feedback they act and look apprehensive.

You probably know someone that has a terrible boss. Wouldn't they pay money to be in someone else's team? Sadly, they often end up finding another job.

Great leaders are Self-Aware

  • They know the areas they are not very strong at and know what makes them successful.

  • With humility accept that they don’t know everything! (There you go, take away that pressure of feeling you should know everything there’s to know!).

  • They learn just as much from their people as their people learn from them.

  • People love to work for them, learn from them and do their very best for them, they want to help their leader be more successful.

Great leaders are an important factor for someone to stay engaged at their jobs. People with great leaders feel heard, they feel their input is valued, they know they matter and fully understand their purpose in the team and organization.

I started in the sales profession to earn extra income at night and on the weekends and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to choose it as my career. For over 10 years, I led teams of sales, sales leadership and sales recruiting towards becoming winners in their organizations, while helping many people grow and advance in their leadership careers.

Keep in mind, you are on a road towards reaching your best leadership level, not only for your career, but also for your personal development. It takes time and a lot of dedication. You won't be great overnight and it is best to be focused on consistent and sustained improvement. Here are the most important requirements:
