Why your only goal in life should be to make yourself happy
Updated: Jul 8, 2019
Many of us say we want to change the world. And in most cases, it just stays at that: WISHES. We tend to be victims of our own routine, going through life running, trying to catch something that we lost or are afraid to lose.
How do we change the world?
It’s almost impossible to think about it. It feels so out of reach. How could I get people to stop fighting and start respecting each other’s lives? How could I change the world so there is more acceptance, less judging, more love?
It is understandable how people freeze and feel there is nothing they can do and just go on living the best way they know how: From OUT to IN. We see what's in front of us, and from there we think, we feel, we move (or not!).
There is a story about a Monk that wanted to change the world. When I read it, it changed mine. It goes:
"When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world. I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation. When I found I couldn't change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn't change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family. Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world."
Living Life Differently: From IN to OUT.
Through different stages of my life, I have paid attention to loud messages inside of me. Messages that feel like something trying to pull me out of my current life or comfortable routine. It is hard to explain, but it's like something grabbing your head from behind and turning it to the side making you look at other roads. At the beginning the path looks blurry, a little scary and exciting at the same time.
If you are in a similar place, not knowing how (or if) to move forward, ask yourself these questions:
1) What would be MY perfect life situation? Caution: This means that you must challenge many things you have learned to be “the right thing”.
2) What does it mean to live my life meeting my own expectations, passion and curiosity?
Life evolves and yes, life happens too. With life happening, there are situations that take our emotions through roller-coasters, muddy paths and obstacle courses. What makes the difference is what you tell yourself (are you complaining or embracing the lessons?) and what you choose to do when going through that.
We are here to live our lives to the max, to learn, to love, to grow. When I go, I want to leave being thankful for everything I had, for everything I accomplished, for the people in my life, the ones that liked me and the ones that didn’t.
Living the perfect life means something different to each of us.
Your path is interconnected with so much around you. Your thoughts, your feelings and actions matter. With or without intention, you are someone that touches many lives and changes the future of many around you.
If you want to change the world, start focusing on yourself. Pay attention to the feelings you are getting, to the thoughts trying to get you to live differently. They will tell you what it means to live the perfect life for yourself. Keep your mind open, recognize your gifts, believe that you can create the life that you want. If you don't believe it just yet, start pretending you do...Everything within yourself will catch up to it at one point!
