5 Leadership Goals that will help you be a Great Boss in 2019
Updated: Jul 15, 2019
Things have changed in the past few years. A higher level of self-awareness is required from every leader that wants to succeed in our current world and with that, we must remove old labels, beliefs and processes to evaluate others. We have to create brand new ways to connect to our people and ourselves, building an organization that strongly represents the voice of our employees and our clients.
Commit to following these 5 Leadership Goals and be the leader your people and organization deserves:
1) Focus on your self-leadership
What are you doing to become stronger physically and mentally? How are you staying connected with the better part of you? Focusing on this, will help you reduce stress, and also stay calm during high pressure situations. Find books, talks or podcasts that bring new ideas and approaches to great leadership. Hang out with people that inspire you and bring the best out of you.
Making your body and mind stronger will lead to you showing up in a way that others want to follow.
2) Make your company culture an accelerator of people’s growth
Are you taking the responsibility to see the potential in people and take intentional steps to help them build trust in themselves, their capabilities and their own leadership? Focusing on career growth and job performance improvement must be something that’s part of your daily operations and activities, and not something you add when the team needs a boost. Be on mentor and coach mode all the time.
3) Notice the differences
Stay aware of how your words, actions and decisions are affecting those that don’t look, live, think or were raised like you. Widen your awareness, educate yourself, read books written by people different than you. For example: If you are a male leader, have you read Lean In, or Break all the rules? These are books written to empower women to step up and also for you to expand your awareness and make you a stronger leader. We all have learned how to lead in a male dominated environment. Things are changing now, so make sure you are keeping up with the great changes happening around how to lead in a more diverse environment.
4) Promote Diversity
Are your employees and clients represented by your leaders? If that’s not the case, what needs to happen for this to be the case in your organization. The more diverse voices you have in the team, the stronger your business will become. It’s about offering equal opportunities to different people.
5) Ditch old patterns of leading
Lead from your heart and not from your fears of failure. I promise, people will love to work with you. Sometimes we just have to remember that: We are all people. We are all different and it’s important that as leaders we recognize those differences, but also stay connected to our humanity in order to see ourselves in everyone. We all have problems, worries, fears. We all hope, love and care. We all feel, and even though you and I express ourselves differently, as leaders, we must find ways to connect at a deeper level.
